Candace K directs the The Bandon Playhouse Christmas show, the charming holiday musical called “Old Befana” one more weekend at the Sprague Community Theatre. The script and lively music by Ken Lonnquist, is a Yuletide / Epiphany tale based upon the old Italian legend about a grumpy old woman who flies with her broom in search of a special child. Sound a bit witchy? Well, yes, she is! But her story has the capacity to touch your heart with a very significant message. Three dates remaining are December 16, 17, 18. General admission $10, Seniors/Students $8 and Children 11 and under, $5. Performance times are 7:30 for the Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday matinees are at 2pm.
There is an intermission after the play and then return to the theatre for a “Christmas Jam” with the musicians.
Befana’s tale has roots that pre-date Christianity, yet she grew to become a ‘Santa-like’ figure in Italian and eastern-European Christmas traditions. “The Legend Of Old Befana” musical has delighted audiences through the midwest annually since 1987. It’s about time she visits Northwest!
